Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Diken is an internationally recognized academic and researcher in the field of special education. After completing his doctorate at Arizona State University, he has been working in the fields of early intervention and early childhood special education.

Get to know me better...

After graduating from Abant İzzet Baysal University’s Primary School Teaching department in 1994, I completed my master’s degree in Special Education at the same university in 1998. Between 1994 and 1998 I worked as a teacher in both general and special education classrooms.

In 1999, with a Ministry of National Education scholarship under Law No. 1416, I went to the United States and began my doctoral studies in Special Education (Early Intervention / Early Childhood Special Education) at Arizona State University, graduating in 2004.

During my doctoral studies I served children aged 18-36 months with developmental delays/disabilities and their families at the Arizona State University Infant-Child Research Programs for four years.

After returning to Türkiye in 2004 I joined the Department of Special Education at Anadolu University’s Faculty of Education. Between 2014 and 2025 I served as the Director of the Research Institute for Individuals with Disabilities, the first and only institute of its kind in Türkiye. Since September 2025 I have been serving as Dean of the Faculty of Education at Anadolu University.

Our "Naturalistic Teaching Project" (https://www.naturalisticteaching.com/), supported first by TÜBİTAK and later by the EU, offers preschool professionals web-based written and visual materials for supporting children's development naturally during daily school routines, activities and transitions, and certifies this content through a professional development process. Freely available in Turkish, English, German, Hungarian and Macedonian, the project received the Accessible ICT Education Award.
